A wonderful movie: HOME, by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, a feast for the senses
In 200,000 years on Earth, humanity has upset the balance of the planet, established by nearly four billion years of evolution. The price to pay is high, but it’s too late to be a pessimist: humanity has barely ten years to reverse the trend, become aware of the full extent of its spoliation of the Earth’s riches, and change its patterns of consumption.

By bringing us unique footage from over fifty countries, all seen from the air, by sharing with us his wonder and his concern, with this film Yann Arthus-Bertrand lays a foundation stone for the edifice that, together, we must rebuild. The movie HOME was conceived to take a message of mobilization out to every human being. On May 5th, 2009, crew members announced HOME would be 100% free for everyone to view, as “The benefits of this film cannot be counted in dollars. WATCH IT HERE!

By the way, our visit to C-Dar Biodynamic Farm in Paradise Valley on Saturday, November 20th, 2010 was a great success! A bus full of real food and farming enthusiasts enjoyed a lecture on the principles and practices of biodynamic farming, followed by a hearty lunch of home-made soup and a tour of the farming grounds.

TRANSPORTATION

TRANSIT
Everything you need to know about the Squamish Transit System can be found here.
Information on the Squamish-Whistler Commuter bus can be found here.

CLEAN AIR STARTS WITH YOU!
On November 3rd, 2009 council adopted a bylaw to regulate unnecessary vehicle idling. The bylaw enforces that a person must not allow a vehicle to idling for more than 2 consecutive minutes. The first few months will be a opportunity to educate the public and get them to break their idling habitats, with the $75 fine associated with the offense to follow early in the New Year. Information cards (seen above) are available at Municipal Hall – so stop by and grab some to distribute to idling cars in your neighborhood. As winter falls upon us, an important thing to remember is that vehicles warm up 50% faster when you drive them. So spare the air, turn your key and to make Squamish Idle Free.

Learn more about the worldwide on going privatization of water:

The documentary Troubled Water (free on YouTube) “examines the threats to public water systems and watersheds using the East Coast of Vancouver Island as a case study. Privatization, public private partnerships (P3’s or P4’s Public Pays for Private Profits), privately owned community watersheds, vulnerable aquifers, over-development, ground water contamination and international trade agreements all undermine the safety and security of public water systems, public ownership and the fundamental human right to access clean drinking water.”

Another very good documentary on the topic of the ongoing privatization of water is the German/French documentary Water Makes Money.
