Volunteer Opportunities

Get your hands dirty to understand what truly inspires Squamish CAN! Whether you prefer to use your hands or your head, you will find a warm welcome.

Do you love to garden? Build? Teach? Here are some ideas on the best ways to get involved.

Activities

Help out around the community garden. Reduce your carbon footprint. Attend a meeting. Speak to the public. Educate your neighbours.

Do you have any special skills, knowledge, or tools? Show us what you can do!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Squamish CAN! Your involvement makes the organization run.

Projects Seeking Volunteers

Our current projects can use your help! Below you can find the projects most particularly seeking volunteers, along with contact information. For any of the projects, you can also contact us using the online form.

  • Squamish CAN Grow Community Garden
  • Mamquam Edible Schoolyard Project
  • Zero Waste Action Team (including Reuse-it Fair and other events)
  • ReUse It Fair (May 13, 2017)
  • Website Building, Graphic Design
  • Seed Library
    • Michalina Hunter michalinahunter@gmail.com
    • We need help with data entry, communicating with our members, organizing workshops, hosting workshops, garden and seed saving mentorship, organizing the library, preparing seed packets, and translating our educational materials into different languages (especially languages of prominent minority groups in Squamish!). Let us know if you can lend a hand with any of those!
  • Eco Home Hop Coordinator
    • info@squamishcan.net
    • Do you have a passion for energy efficiency? House retrofits? LEED certified buildings? Work with our energy committee to coordinate this year’s Eco Home Hop! Held in November, would require a few week’s commitment for recruiting homes for the tour, promotion in newspaper, radio, etc.
  • Land Sharing
    • Do you have land or a big yard that you’d love to see used for food production? Maybe you don’t have the time to do it yourself. Looking for land to farm or garden on? Contact us and we can promote your space through our networks. Email michalinahunter@gmail.com
  • Garden Mentorship
    • Find out more on our garden mentorship page (under construiton for 2017!)
